Mircea Alex. Munteanu

Continuing Sessional Lecturer

I was born in Bucharest, Romania, which is where I started to learn English, at the age of four, and where, much later on, I graduated from the English Department of the University of Bucharest. During my training in language and literature, psychology was more of a hobby or personal interest of mine, and I used to do a lot of reading in theories of personality and the history of psychology. Upon my immigration to Canada in 1990, I knew I wanted to study psychology in a more systematic manner. So, I decided to become a student again and I enrolled in the Diploma in Education program at U.B.C. Then, I completed my Master of Arts and my Doctor of Philosophy programs in Counselling Psychology, all at U.B.C. I became very attached to my Alma Mater and, over the past thirty years, I have had the pleasure of teaching numerous counselling psychology and research courses offered through the Faculty of Education at U.B.C. Apart from the clinical work in counselling, my professional and academic interests are in the areas of theories of psychotherapy, psychological assessment, research designs, and ethics. Dr. Mircea Alex. Munteanu is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
