Getting Started – Scarfe Room 1007

Are you a new graduate student to UBC? Want to find articles, books, and journals? Come to this session to learn about UBC library resources & services available to you, whether you’re in the library, at the office, or doing research from home. This introductory class includes an orientation to the catalogue, ejournals, indexes, subject guides, chat reference service and meet your Education librarians

 

Finding Dissertations and Theses at UBC and Beyond– Scarfe  Room 1006

Want to find Masters and Doctoral theses on your topic?  Start with UBC Library’s cIRcle collection, plus expand your search to include Google Scholar and international theses.  This session will highlight websites and databases such as Worldcat, Proquest Dissertations and Theses, British Library Ethos, Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, DART Europe E-theses and connect with your Education librarians.

3:45 – 4:30 p.m.                  PROGRAM AREA ORIENTATION

Expanding on the general information provided at the department level (above), each program area will provide new students with information about program guidelines and procedures and courses.  Students are asked to attend the orientation session for their program:

4:30 – 5:00 p.m.                  ECPS DEPARTMENT ORIENTATION – Scarfe Room 100

This session will cover basic information about graduate preparation in ECPS. Find out what you need to know to effectively navigate your graduate school experiences, including:

·         introduction to department administrators, faculty and staff as well as graduate academic assistants

·         information about requirements and regulations, as well as necessary procedures, and

·         information about funding opportunities, deadlines, student services and more!

 

5:00 – 5:30 p.m.                  GSFE STUDENT ORIENTATION – Scarfe Room 100

                                                No profs, no staff, just honest student discussions!  Facilitated by the Graduate Student Council of the Faculty of Education (GSFE), this is your chance to speak frankly with senior graduate students about anything to do with your program.

 

5:30 – 7:00 p.m.                  ECPS WELCOME (BACK) BBQ – west side of Scarfe Office Block

All students, both new and returning, are invited to join us for the fifth annual ECPS Welcome (Back) BBQ, hosted by ECPS faculty. The BBQ will be held on the lawn and parking area on the west side of the Scarfe Office Block.  Burgers (both veggie and beef), hot dogs, and drinks will be provided and faculty members will contribute additional “potluck” food items (veggies, fruit, desserts).
