Dr. Allison Cloth Awarded 2014-2015 HSS Seed Grant and John and Doris Andrews Research and Development Award

Professor Allison ClothIn May 2014, Dr. Allison Cloth has been awarded the 2014-2015 HSS Seed Grant ($7,000) and the John and Doris Andrews Research and Development Award ($3,700).

These grants, combined, provide funding for a research project that Dr. Cloth has developed in two phases. Phase one consists of a community collaboration examining the resources within (and around) Britannia Secondary School as well as the strengths and needs for supporting youth with emotional, behavioral, and attendance challenges. Phase one activities will lead to recommendations and potential new projects brought about by school staff interviews and ideas. Phase two will be the implementation of a motivational interviewing intervention with youth who are chronically absent from school and at-risk for disengagement or dropout.

It is clear that Allison is excited to continue her work with this project. In speaking with her, she expressed, “I am so pleased to be working with this community school, the school administrators and staff are immensely dedicated and compassionate. It is a unique community setting with many resources to draw upon.”
