Dr. Rachel Weber received the Hampton Fund Research Grant in April 2014, in the amount of $22,237. The grant is funding a project titled, “An Exploration of Cognitive Resilience in At-Risk Children from Diverse Linguistic Backgrounds.” Dr. Weber will be combining and extending her research interests to examine some of the factors that may lead to improved cognitive outcomes in children considered at-risk.

Dr. Rachel Weber joined the Department of Educational & Counselling Psychology and Special Education at the University of British Columbia in September 2013. Prior to moving to Vancouver, BC, Dr. Weber completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical pediatric neuropsychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Her current research areas of interest include the development of executive functioning skills in at-risk children, the impact of second and multi-language exposure on cognitive development, and the long-term neurocognitive impacts of chemotherapy and radiation used to treat childhood cancer.

The fund encourages research that is interdisciplinary and that offers other theoretical, methodological or empirical innovation. The fund encourages applications from new scholars.
