José Domene, Ph.D., is a candidate for the tenure-track assistant professor Position in Counselling Psychology (Family Counselling)
Couple and Family Contexts of Constructing a Future Life
In this colloquium, Dr. Domene will describe his background and the trajectory of his program of research on couple and family contexts of career development in adolescence and emerging adulthood. He will also highlight one of his current studies, using contextual action theory to explore how undergraduate student couples jointly create and pursue goals for their post-degree life and work. Dr. Domene will describe key emerging findings from this study, as well as potential implications for counselling psychology practice and counsellor education emerging from this study and his broader program of research.
BIOGRAPHY
José F. Domene, PhD., L.Psych., is a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in School to Work Transition in at the University of New Brunswick and a Professor in the Faculty of Education, where he teaches in the Counselling program. His areas of research include couple and family contexts of career development in adolescents and emerging adults, and professional issues in counselling and counselling psychology in Canada. Over the past decade, his work has been funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation, and the New Brunswick Foundation for Innovation.
Dr. Domene previously worked as a mental health clinician for MCFD Child and Youth Mental Health in British Columbia, and currently maintains a part-time practice as licensed psychologist at UNB Counselling Services. There, he provides psychotherapy to students presenting with a wide range of psychological, interpersonal, and vocational concerns and coordinates the pre-doctoral internship program. In addition, Dr. Domene is currently serving as the President-Elect of the Counsellor Educators Chapter of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and has previously served as the Chair of the Counselling Psychology Section of the Canadian Psychological Association.
