ECPS is pleased to welcome Dr. John Lum as an Assistant Professor in the School and Applied Child Psychology Program
Prior to joining UBC, Dr. Lum served as the District Psychologist with the Vancouver School Board, where he conducted autism spectrum disorder and psychoeducational assessments for students requiring intensive support. He also consulted with teachers and school staff through the district’s Urgent Intervention Process team to support students with behavioural and academic needs. In addition, Dr. Lum is a Qualified Specialist with the British Columbia Autism Assessment Network, conducting clinical diagnostic assessments for autism spectrum disorder. He earned his Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed his pre-doctoral internship at the May Institute in Boston.
Dr. Lum’s research focuses on behavioural interventions in school and classroom settings, with an emphasis on teacher consultation and supporting learning for diverse student populations. His work explores effective, sustainable approaches to improving behavioural and academic outcomes for students, including those with neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder and intellectual developmental disorder. Through his research, Dr. Lum aims to advance practices that foster students’ social-emotional wellbeing and success in inclusive educational environments.
