NITEP and HDLC are proud to celebrate their collaborative initiative, Roots of Connection.
Designed to support Indigenous teacher candidates throughout their professional journey, this 8-month long project brought together NITEP, HDLC, and students to create a beautifully crafted Teacher Planner grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and social-emotional learning. These planners were professionally printed and gifted to each and every Indigenous student studying in their professional year.
The initiative also included three thoughtfully facilitated gatherings that created a meaningful place for connection with faculty and peers, while offering opportunities for learning, reflection, and professional growth. Some of the themes for these events included Gathering, Growing, and Being Authentically Yourself in Practicum.
We are deeply grateful for the 2024-25 Faculty of Education EDID Grant and the generous funding received that made this important and impactful work possible. Our areas will be continuing the work started here through a recurring offering of the Teacher Planner—through Community Field Experiences with the TEO—and future events that will be designated to support Indigenous student brilliance in the Faculty of Education.
