Information and Policy on ECPS Graduate Student Award – Updated on April 1, 2026
The ECPS Graduate Student Award is open to all registered and active graduate students in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, and Special Education, enrolled in one of the five primary graduate programs, who attended academic conferences or conducted research in the current UBC Academic Year (between September 1st of the current year and August 31st of the following year).
Award Funding Schedule:
- Doctoral Students: Maximum $2000/yr, twice during their enrolment in the degree program;
- Masters (MA/MEd) Students: Maximum $2000/yr, once during their enrolment in the degree program;
- Eligible expenses incurred in the same academic year can be combined; the award amount is capped at $2000 in one particular academic year; Any amounts over the cap, or any unused room, cannot be carried forward to the next cycle.
Eligible Expenses:
- Eligible conference expenses include conference registration, travel, accommodation;
- Eligible research expenses include travel to and from research sites, parking at research sites, photocopying, supplies, incentives for participants and service payments.
Ineligible Expenses:
- The award cannot be used to pay yourself a salary or wage for doing work on your own research;
- Computer equipment, software expenses, and other costs of disseminating research results are not eligible.
To apply for ECPS Graduate Student Award, please prepare the following documents:
- a completed application form;
- a brief explanation (one paragraph with approximately 200 words) as to how the conference and/or research is advancing your graduate training;
- all receipts of your conference expenses or research expenses;
- a spreadsheet summarizes your expenses and amounts;
- submit all required award application documents via email to: Jesse Liang, Administrative Manager of ECPS, within 30 days after your conference or research activities
NOTE: These awards depend upon the availability of funds.
