Michelle Kozey (PhD Candidate)

Michelle Kozey is originally from Regina, Saskatchewan and loves living in Vancouver for its kayaking, ethnic food, and metropolitan meets tourism scene. She studied political economy and biopsychology respectively at Queens University and the University of Toronto, then worked as a clinical researcher in mental health and neurosurgery at University of Manitoba. She has worked as a psychometrist in the department of Clinical Psychology at BC Children’s Hospital for the past 7 years, while completing a MA in school psychology at UBC, and then her Pre-Doctoral Internship with the Illinois School Psychology Internship Consortium (APA Accredited). Her internship was situated in a hospital-based behavioral pediatrics clinic, and secondarily at a Tier 3 school for children with conduct, emotional and behavioral disorders. She has returned from a maternity leave to finish her dissertation research on executive functioning and aggression in young children. Her career goals are to provide psychological services to young children with disabilities and their families, within medical, community mental health and early childhood settings, as well as continue her involvement in academic research related to the early assessment and treatment of young children. Her favorite aspects of the UBC School Psychology program have been its outstanding training in cognitive assessment, and the opportunities to specialize in pediatric psychology, early childhood special education, and school-based mental health.
