Addressing Oppression-Based Stress in Psychotherapy with Trans and Nonbinary Clients

Abstract: This presentation will focus on psychotherapy research with trans and nonbinary clients. First, current and historical factors affecting trans and nonbinary clients in psychotherapy will be addressed. Next, an overview of the first randomized controlled psychotherapy study with trans and nonbinary clients will be provided along with lessons learned from the process and results. Finally, next steps in psychotherapy research with trans and nonbinary clients will be discussed. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A regarding the talk and broader discussions around evidence-based practice with trans and nonbinary clients.
