Career Development and Sense of Calling: The Emerging Research Evidence (Video)

In the past decade, the concept of being called to a purpose for one’s career or life has begun to receive increased attention within the career development and vocational psychology research literature. In this colloquium, Dr Domene provides an overview of emerging psychological models of sense of calling, discusses the evidence linking the construct of calling to aspects of career development, and identifies potential implications for career counselling practice.

Biography

Dr José F Domene is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, where he holds a Canada Research Chairship in School to Work Transition. His areas of teaching include theories of counselling, career development and counselling, and practitioner wellness and self-care. His primary areas of research are in the social and relational contexts of career development, young adults’ transition into the workforce, and professional issues in counselling and counselling psychology in Canada. Dr Domene also serves as a part-time, interim psychologist at UNB Counselling Services, where he engages in personal and career counselling with university students.
