EPSE 511 Critical Perspectives on Learning Technologies and Digital Contexts will critically examine teaching and learning through technological tools and the digital contexts they create. Learners in this course will engage with a variety of educational technological tools as we consider their impact on learning and teaching in K-12 and university settings. Building from critical pedagogy, we will explore topics such as mediated classroom practices, the effects of digital engagement and access on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism, and the present concerns about privacy and (large data) surveillance. Students may engage in assignments that critically examine various digital tools and their appropriateness to one’s practice. These assignments may include the creation of open educational resources (OER) that can be shared with a broader audience.  Self-reflective exercises will inform the assessment process in this course.
