CNPS 362: Basic Interviewing Skills
EPSE 308 Qualifications:
Preference is given to Doctoral students in Counselling Psychology (or closely related) who have a strong understanding of basic helping/counselling/clinical skills; however, highly qualified students in the Master’s program (particularly those advanced in the program) are also welcome to apply. It is preferred that the applicant have completed courses on helping skills (e.g., CNPS 362, CNPS 574) and have some applied counselling/clinical training (e.g., CNPS 588).
Successful applicants must also have the approval of their research supervisor (based on making satisfactory progress in the program).
Specific Course Information and Requirements:
CNPS 362 is an undergraduate course that is required for or part of several UBC graduate programs (e.g., Counselling Psychology, School and Applied Child Psychology, Genetic Counselling). The course takes a lecture/lab format. TAs must attend the lectures (once per week) and be responsible to run activities in smaller groups in the lab sections (each TA responsible for two lab sections per week).
The course runs as a community of practice and thus TAs, along with the course coordinator, will contribute to the content and organization of the course and create one common syllabus. TAs are responsible to make themselves familiar with the intent and content of the course, and will be highly supported in their planning and grading during this term. It is expected that all TAs will attend several planning sessions that will take place early in the term.
We are running the course in Winter 1 with one lecture, and in Winter 2 with two lectures (see detailed schedule below). We are hiring two TAs per lecture.
All graduate students in masters or doctoral programs meeting the general qualifications are welcome to apply for these sections.

We encourage all qualified persons to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada will be given priority.
