Aisha Ghani

 

Ph.D. Student

Aisha is a doctoral candidate in the School and Applied Child Psychology (SCAP) program. Before starting graduate school, Aisha worked in research at BC Children’s Hospital with children diagnosed with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions as well as their families. During her graduate training she has provided assessment, consultation, and intervention services in private, community, and school-based settings. Aisha’s research and clinical work is rooted in holistic and culturally responsive practice that attends to an individual’s intersecting identities and related socio-political influences. Her thesis investigated health, quality of life, and executive functioning in young adults with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Her doctoral dissertation focuses on youth-parent relationships in the Canadian South-Asian community.

Research Interests:

Aisha’s research interests include neurodevelopmental differences; family dynamics; youth-parent relationships in newcomer, immigrant, and refugee families; and using transnational and feminist theorecical frameworks in research.
