3:00 – 4:00 p.m. LIBRARY ORIENTATION FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS – Scarfe Building, Room 1006
Congratulations on being admitted into one of the best Faculties of Education in the world. Come to this session to learn about how to use UBC library resources and services sufficiently to quench your thirst for knowledge and new ideas. This introductory class provides an opportunity to meet your Education librarians and learn about the catalogue, e-journals, indexes, subject guides, and referencing service provided by UBC libraries whether you are working on-site or remotely.
4:30 – 5:30 p.m. ECPS DEPARTMENT ORIENTATION – 2125 Main Mall, Scarfe Building, Room 100
Welcome to ECPS! Find out how to effectively navigate your graduate school experiences, including:
• An introduction to ECPS Administrators, Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Academic Assistants (GAAs)
• Ideas for immersing yourself in the department culture(s) and engaging in collaboration(s)
• Suggestions for following your curiosity and linking with ongoing communication
• How and where to access information regarding your graduate experience
• Information regarding deadlines, annual reports, and other expectations
• How to navigate and facilitate student-supervisor interactions
• Whom to go to when you have a problem, want some consultation, or support on your work
• Available supports and workshops to enhance your academic skills and outputs
• Opportunities for funding
• Insider perspectives on surviving the first year as a graduate student
5:30 – 7:00 p.m. ECPS WELCOME (BACK) Picnic – West side of Scarfe Office Block
All new graduate students are invited to join us for our annual ECPS Welcome (Back) picnic, hosted by the Department. The picnic will be held on the lawn and parking area on the west side of the Scarfe Office block. Sandwiches, drinks, and desserts will be provided by ECPS department.
