Congratulations to ECPS Associate Professor Dr. Sterett Mercer

Please join the Department in congratulating Dr. Sterett Mercer, Associate Professor in ECPS, and his colleagues for being awarded a $2.4 Million research grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health to support their 5-year research project Reducing Youth Violence and Racism/Discrimination: The Efficacy of Comprehensive Prevention Strategies (CPS). Funded through the NIH’s Minority Health and Health Disparities Research program, the project will combine existing elements of positive behaviour interventions and supports, widely implemented in schools across the U.S., with Coping Power, an intervention program for children with aggression problems, to address interracial and intraracial youth aggression and implicit biases in teachers that lead to disproportionate rates of exclusionary discipline.
