Problems in your Graduate Program? Help is Close to Home
Graduate school is an exciting, rewarding and challenging
experience. Occasionally, however, problems can arise and appear to
be overwhelming. In those times, it's good to know that there are
many people in the department to whom you can turn for information,
resources, problem-solving, and respectful, confidential dialogue. Here are
some suggestions.
Your faculty advisor/supervisor may be the best person to talk to
first. You may find it helpful to consult
the Faculty of Graduate
Studies (FoGS) Handbook of Graduate Supervision. It's an excellent
resource regarding every aspect of working with all the folks on your
committee in a successful and professional manner.
The ECPS Graduate Program Assistants, Karen Yan (CNPS, MERM) and Alex Allen (HDLC, SPED, SCPS) provide information to students regarding
routine matters pertinent to progress through a graduate program.
The graduate program assistants can provide assistance locating an appropriate ECPS,
FoGS or University form, information regarding relevant policies and
timelines, and any other routine graduate program matters.

students in solving problems with progress through a graduate
program that have not been resolved within the student's committee.
Mary can provide assistance and advocacy navigating appropriate ECPS, FoGS
or
University policies, information regarding relevant policies and
timelines, impact of illness on progress, persistent and unresolved conflict
within the advisor-advisee relationship, and any other graduate program
matters.
