of High Ability
The Department of Educational Psychology
and Special Education offers two masters degree programs
focused on development and education of individuals
of high ability. These degree programs take a developmental
approach to the study of high ability. They include
courses in cognitive and social development designed
to promote understanding of developmental patterns
in learners of high ability.
Approaches to identification and education are covered
which focus on school experiences appropriately matched
to learners' levels of academic and psychosocial development.
Field experience consisting of observations, interviews,
curriculum-based assessment and individual and small
group teaching allows students to understand the particular
needs of preschool, elementary, and secondary students
of high ability.
