Approved M.A. & M.Ed. Prerequisites

To meet the December 1st application deadline, students applying for standing for CNPS 362, 363, or 365 must submit their requests and the accompanying materials no later than November 15th.  The memo confirming that standing has been granted must be appended to your application form.

In 2018, the equivalency lists underwent a major refresh. During this process, many courses on the lists were removed for various reasons (e.g., course no longer exists, course was last reviewed over 15 years ago). This does not necessarily mean that courses formerly on the list are no longer equivalent. Instead, it means that these courses will have to be re-reviewed by the Admissions Team to make such a determination. The equivalency lists will continue to be updated each year with courses deemed equivalent from the previous year’s admissions cycle. However, in recognition that certain courses previously deemed equivalent may no longer be deemed equivalent upon re-review and that students may have taken these courses in anticipation of applying to our programs, the CNPS Admissions Committee will continue to honour courses on the former equivalency list for admissions years 2019 and 2020 at the applicant’s request.

(The following CNPS 362 prerequisites also apply to the VRHC Area of Focus.)

Completed standing is not routinely granted for CNPS 362. Applicants who have NOT completed CNPS 362 at the University of British Columbia MUST apply to have the course they successfully completed elsewhere, reviewed following the CNPS 362 Review Procedure. Some courses recently assessed as similar in content are listed below. Successful completion of one of the courses within the last 10 years does not guarantee that you will be granted standing for CNPS 362. You must still complete the CNPS 362 review process, including submission of a 20 minute DVD of a simulated counselling session for review by the members of the 362 committee. If standing is granted, you must append to your application form, a copy of the memo verifying that you have been granted standing for CNPS 362. For the review to be completed prior to the December 1st application deadline, requests must be received no later than November 15th.
